We
are not only the largest radio group in Northwestern Mexico
and the largest Hispanic radio group serving San Diego,
we are one of the oldest, having started in 1969.
Gustavo Astiazaran, CEO and
President of Uniradio, began our first station, XEMO—now
known as La Poderosa broadcasting in the San Diego-Tijuana
region. In 1978, we started our first FM station, XHSD
in Hermosillo the capital of the Mexican state of Sonora.
Our second FM station XHFG was
added in the San Diego-Tijuana region in 1979. We acquired
XHTY-FM, XHA-FM and XRCN-AM in 1998 and two more in Navojoa,
Mexico to round out our full line of stations so that at
present we now operate twelve stations: five serving the
San Diego-Tijuana region and seven serving the Mexican state
of Sonora.
As our stations have grown so
has our family’s involvement. Astiazaran’s sons
joined him in the business: Luis Carlos Astiazaran is General
Manager in our Tijuana office and Ricardo Astiazaran is General
Manager in San Diego.
